It's My Birthday!

It's my birthday today. My last birthday in my 50's. Next year I will turn 60. What a depressing thought......60 "sounds" so old. I am determined to keep smiling and make this the best year ever! I had such a nice day today. My good friend Tammy and I went to the yarn shop and had lunch. She was so kind to invite me to go with her, and she bought my lunch! Then my daughter came over and.....guess what.......an answer to prayer, she gave me a new camera! Now I just have to study up and learn how to use it. My son bought me three books I'd been wanting. Thanks to all for making this a fine day. God Bless! I got the Carolina Crossroads (quiltvillechat.com) quilted yesterday and put the binding on (machine work) last night. Will do the hand work probably tomorrow. It sure looks better quilted. Maybe I can figure out the camera soon and take a good photo!

Re: Happy Birthday Steven

Today would have been his 40th birthday, but he is in Heaven with his Dad. I am the only one who remembers. But even though you are with the angels, Steven, at least one person thinks of you and wants to wish you a Happy Birthday. Love, Mom

Monster quilt

The monster quilt is finished, well, maybe not completed, but ready to quilt. It is the mystery quilt called "Carolina Crossroads" from Quiltvillechat.com. I have been quilting over 30 years, closer to 40 years, but have never (in my memory) had a quilt fight me like this one did. Even the sewing machine came un-threaded every time I removed a piece of fabric! The sun is shining today (thank God), and the wind is blowing, but you get the general idea. Looks like it will be a pleasant day for Easter tomorrow, too! (I am continuing to pray for a better camera!)

Quilted Basket Cover

Woo Hoo! This is a record for me. Three posts in one day! My son took this photo of the basket I lined today. I use it to keep yarn in while I am working on my tri-loom. Keeps the yarn from rolling or bouncing around. I am not good with stuff where I have to wing-it. I'm used to using a pattern.

Sheepie

My son took the photo of (yet un-named) sheepie. He is much better with electronics than I am. This sheepie is so cute. Sad to think he came from Walmart & the dog-toy section. I spent the better part of the afternoon cutting & sewing a lining for a basket that I dearly love, but had edges that catch yarn on the inside. It works much better now.

Friday

Well, I was going to show a photo of my new stuffed sheepie, and also some of my work for this week, but the photo I took was so dark that it wouldn't show up at all. My cheap camera seems to be on strike. So sorry. I have been working on the Quiltville.com "Carolina Crossroads" quilt this week and the more I seem to work on it, the more there is to do. I'm thinking this project will be dumped in a box for future reference. Some things just don't work for everyone. This has been a busy week, though, and has passed by quickly. My son will be home all next week as the College is closed for Spring Break. Things are always busy around here when he is home, but I don't get much done, usually.

Civil War Blocks

Once again, sorry for the poor quality of the photo. These are from the Civil War Diary book. My Civil War Love Letter Quilt book arrived today. I'm so glad I can work on both now!

A better photo

Here is a better photo of the Snails Tails quilt, taken outdoors yesterday. Luckily it was taken yesterday when the sun was out, as today it is stormy and windy. A good day to sit at the sewing machine and forget about the weather.

Snails Tails Quilt

Here is a rather bad photo of one of my latest quilts. It is from the book "Square in a Square" by Jodi Barrows. The "gray" blocks are really a beautiful med blue. I think I will have to save up for a better camera. I loved making this quilt, and it did sit and wait for me a whole year before I got around to making it. The weather is warming up now, we have been seeing robins this weekend, so it is time for me to go over to my "studio" and use the longarm. (I actually burned out FIVE motors on that machine trying to work when it's too cold!!)

First Baby Jane Blocks

These are the first Dear Jane blocks that I made in 2006. My camera is not a good one, but I am so pleased that I was finally able to take a picture and add it to my Blog by myself. I had to ask my son a dozen questions, but I sat here and did it myself. Guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. I received my Civil War Diaries book today. My son got it for me for my birthday (3/28). However, I realized that a lot of the blocks on the webring are also from the Civil War Love Letters book. I've gone ahead and ordered it, too. I hope I'm not taking on too many projects here with three books now!!
