Dear Jane Quilt

I have just joined a blog of people working on another Civil War Quilt called Dear Jane or Baby Jane. I started mine in the summer of '06, but because of family concerns, I put it away for awhile. This new blog is just the incentive to work on it, and I got the box with pattern & fabrics out yesterday. I am really excited to be a part of this group, too. The local Bookstore called yesterday, and said that my Civil War Diaries book has arrived. Will go tomorrow & pick it up. WooHoo! Sure hope that I am not taking on too much. I have just got to learn how to post pictures! I always depend on my daughter or son to do it for me.

Back to my Basics

OK, so I've rediscovered quilting. I'm finishing up ufo's I have hidden around here, and have signed on a new project. I've ordered the book "Civil War Quilt Diary" by Rosemary Youngs and will begin making the blocks when it arrives. I've loved the Civil War repro fabrics since I first noticed them and also love the 30's repro fabrics. I began the Dear Jane Civil War quilt blocks a few years ago, but really didn't get too far with them. I am excited about this new project, and will gather up my repro fabrics (when it quits raining) over in my "studio" and can't wait to get started. Did I ever mention that I am a (retired) longarm quilter??

Catercorner Quilt

I think I will quilt awhile!

I have been so busy working with yarn...sweaters, socks, afghans, that I have completely forgotten about quilts lately. About two weeks ago I began to work on quilts again, and have rediscovered my love of quilting. Not only do they keep you warm, but there is a definite connection to our Creator while working on a quilt. It is a solitary work. Although I seldom talk to God when I am working with yarn (unless it's a Prayer Shawl).......I definitely do when I work on a quilt. And I definitely have a lot to talk to Him about these days. Photos later (when I can get one of my children to take them for me!). Psalm 57:1

Miss Marple KAL

OK, so I've done it again! But I love to read, and I love Agatha Christie, and I know I can knit a scarf, so here goes. I've been trying to finish up UFO's, and have finished several. Such really bad weather lately, it has been easy to stay home & knit or crochet or quilt. Finished the Central Park Hoodie over the weekend. Photo soon (I hope).

Just a Thought

I have joined a new blog. It is for Vegan Sock knitters and is a KAL. I have added the new button at the right. Looks kind of scarey, right? But I have been a vegetarian most of my life, or at least the last 9 years. Although I love to knit with and wear wool socks, I think it would be fun to use other yarns as well.......cotton, bamboo, even acrylic. I'll give it a try and let you know how it turns out!

A Tribute - 20 years of friendship

It recently occured to me that it is the 20 year anniversary of my friendship via snail mail with Sister Marie Bauer. We "met" when I answered an ad in a crochet magazine - she was wanting patterns for Q-hook afghans. She lived at that time in my home town of Port Huron, Mich. We have traded patterns and friendship ever since. When my Mother died in 1993, and I was able to make the trip home, Sister Marie and I met face to face. My late husband was also there and also dear Sister Catherine, who has also gone to be with the Lord. We had dinner together, a brief visit, and had a great time. I will always cherish that short time we had together and be grateful for it. Sister Marie has since retired and I no longer can travel, but we still keep up with each other by mail. In this day & time when it is so easy to send an email & be done with it, it is getting harder to sit down with pen in hand & send someone a personal note. (Especially with the arthritis now.) Sometimes I wish the world didn't move so fast. I would love to be able to sit down with my friend once again and just chat & crochet.
